We need more tanks!!!

It has come to my attention that we are rather short on tanks. Due to the the Jerrys getting there act together and taking them out last year we had a rather hard time getting the yanks off the beach. Also that the Yanks had 2 that were fielded did not help one bit

I have been looking into How to build extra vehicals on site tanketts and a few others so we can field more this year.I know that Mac has a few to field but was wondering if any of the locals could field some vehicals.Or donate parts,Pods, time, tools, screws bolts so we can have some more stuff available to us. To keep us supplied with water, food, ammo and the rest plus the possiblity of over running Coleville a personal hate of mine.

A few petrol powered gokarts would be a help if any one has them.
Cool web site for stuff www.scaledtanks.com

Its just an Idea but a whole lot cheaper than me exporting FV432's from the UK

Re: We need more tanks!!!

I've been tossing around this idea myself for some time. A few of us will be on-site really early, and if someone gets me an old truck or SUV and some supplies, I will gladly start cranking out tanks until my fingers bleed!

Drew mentioned he has an old pickup lying around that might be good tank fodder...anybody else know some family or friends with an old beater pickup we can pick up for cheap? Keeping them at D-Day shouldn't be a problem, there's already a few tanks stored there year-around.

Actually, I believe we almost had something like this worked out on the Allied Command forum, but I think it kind of disappeared...I've already seen a few vehicles for sale locally that would be PERFECT for conversions (There was an old CJ-7 with an ugly body but good running gear for $500 a few months ago...a can of olive paint, some camo netting and a few guns and it would have made a fantastic Rat Patrol-type Jeep...), I just don't have the money to rent a truck and a car hauler to get them to the field.

A thought occurred: Maybe we should shift some of our fund raising focus away from facilities and towards tanks. They're a great recruiting tool-everybody wants to be a tanker-and they'll do a lot more for winning the game then some camp facilities.

Either way, I'm up for any tank building help I can offer. Maybe we should start up a donation thing-any materials you can bring that might be useful, list it up and see what we can get.

EDIT: Also, Scaled Tanks is awesomesauce.

Re: We need more tanks!!!

I seam to remember there being a brakers yard up the road and yes that one on the air field ;) it would need alot of love but could be a help.for the turret and plating the motor was far from service able as a Racoon was or some other black and white creature was living under the bonnet(hood).

The parts donation is a great idea As every one has somthing they could chuck in thats sat round the garage doing nothing ;)

Doing a little digging around the interwebs, turns out there may be an automobile salvage place in Seneca

Tanks are a major investment hauling one across country can be expensive. Leaving one sit on-site outside (unless you can make it fit in a container) allows for all sorts of potential problems that may not be fixable in a weeks time, including the effects of time or the unscrupulous.

If we can get our mits on a couple of the Suzuki sj410/413s they will fit in the iso easy and its 4x4 so wont get stuck easy there 80inches long not sure how wide But I remember seeing one last year so they must be available in the US.I think most US motors are a bit to big width wise Ill do some thinking as all we need is the solid chassis to build on to does the US produce a pick up trucks or Car that isnt auto (storing a manual is easier)thats not to wide to fit? HELL A VOLVO 240 ESTATE Its already a tank!!!And they just dont die My mates has 999672 miles on the clock and it still bloody works Getting a bit smokey but hell Saves smoke generators!!!

They were marketed here as the Samurai. (Had to Google it to make sure). It seems they are a favorite of the off road crowd.

By "Does the US produce", do you mean an American car company or something produced on American soil? I think we make more foreign cars here now than our own.

I'll have to look up measurements, or take some, but The Ford Ranger, at least the one before they were just re-badging Mazdas, were fairly stout and available with manual transmissions.

Hell, could always build a rail buggy, slap some panels on it, and stick an old VW power train under it. The old 4 speeds, especially the one out of the Type 2 (Transporter, aka "bus") with the reduction gears, could lay down the torque.

Or, slap a turret on a Volvo.

Re: We need more tanks!!!

Geo and Chevrolet models of the Tracker are the same as the Samuri and Pontiac makes a version too but the name escapes me.

I own (& drive) a Chev Tracker and think that they are one of the best 4X4's to mod into a tank due to thier size. We have been trying to get an older model to use as the base for a tank for quite some time now but they seem to be popluar with the offroad crowd around here and finding one that is running can be tough. The older 1980's and early 1990's are boxy and look like an old jeep, if you can get one with the rag top it is even better. When mine gets too rough for the highway I plan on converting it but I still need it as primary wheels for a bit yet.

I believe its a 20 tank limit per side. We'll just have to lay mines to take out those tanks

My bad I forgot that they moniter every thing. Lose lips sink ships

I still think fielding more machines that are capable of being available would be a valuable addition to our equipment Like.........

Re: We need more tanks!!!

Slightly used hell yeah thats a scorpion light tank. There a little to quick for dday do about 45mph when restricted little pricy on spares though and with them being air portable they are usualy beat to crap during the landing.Nice peace of kit expensive at a guess over here where there made there £10,000 for a fubar one spend £11000 and buy a T55 or a BPM2 more bang for the buck as there alot bigger.Just dont expect any thing modern from Russian tanks.Or comfort for that matter.

They are small and cool though. If you get one dont get the one with the Jaguar engine the Cummins diesel is alot less thursty to say the least.

found another specal

Yeah, but you know thw drill, shipping them over, use them in the 'overseas training area' and then dump them. It's not worth shipping them back. SOooo... over the next two Years the 'Brit's' have to either a) renew there lease, or b) start dumping kit. ( I'm betting on choice b )

Re: We need more tanks!!!

Yeah the UK doesnt realy get rid of its kit thats why we use globe masters so it all comes back for refit they are used by canada as dressed up T80s in the Opfor I believe (who ever came up with the idea has never seen a T 80 there BIG BUGGERS)They might well be avalable as Russia now using the T90s Replacement for the T72 and T80 an amalgum of the 2 and there is no way that they could even make them look similar. So might be available.

Over in the UK the guy to see is DaveThatcher. He runs a
site where they offer paintball, airsoft and laser tag. He
also owns some 40-50 tracked toys which all run. Wish he
was over here so we could 'borrow' a few.

His website is http://www.warfighters.eu/

A third option is to see what a place called Kahki Corps has
to offer. They're located in Tulsa, FL
